UK Discounts for Canadian Forces
By Jill Kruse
Canadian military personnel and veterans who currently live and work in the United Kingdom or may be thinking of travelling to the UK this year to enjoy the Queen's Jubilee celebrations or perhaps the Olympics, can now gain free access to the same savings and special offers currently available to British Armed Forces personnel online at www.rewardsforforces.co.uk.
The program is organized by Peter Raith and Hannah Perry who have been working in military arena for over 20 years.
The idea for rewardsforforces came from an email Raith received from a serviceman who had just returned from a tour in Afghanistan. The soldier stated that he was in a line up waiting to pay for some items when a student in front of him asked for and received a discount.
When the serviceman asked if there was a discount for him he was told that the company did not offer discounts to service personnel. It annoyed the serviceman that students were considered more deserving than serving soldiers and so he wrote to Raith.
Having worked with the forces community for many years and knowing the sacrifices that they make, Raith decided he would do something about the situation and www.rewardsforforces.co.uk was created. Many of the offers on the website are being extended to Canadian Forces personal.
"Many of the thousands of offers on the website are free to access as there is no joining fee. Other offers require a rewards card to show at a kiosk or cash desk. The rewards card is optional, but opens the door to many more savings, especially in areas which would be useful to a visitor," said Raith.
The website provides users and card carrying members access to thousands of special discounts and deals offered by British businesses who wish to show their appreciation to armed forces personnel, veterans and their families for the sacrifices they make for their countries.
"The sign up form has been designed with many years experience and asks enough questions to deter anyone who is not from the military community from applying. Our discount partners are happy with our level of security, and they can if they wish, put in another level of security: However, this is rare," explained Raith.
Deals include discounts on travel, hotels, theme parks, restaurants and retail businesses. There is no need for Canadian military personnel to carry or show official identification to access the deals. Further discounts can be had by purchasing the Rewardsforforces ID card for approximately $25 Canadian. Visitors to the site apply online and once issued the card they can use it at any of the businesses associated with the program - in person or on online.
"The card does carry a fee as we receive no funding for the scheme and so the costs cover the manufacture of the card, administration, taxes and ongoing support. It also covers the costs associated with finding and promoting the discounts. The fee is a one off charge and the card is for life," said Raith.
www.rewardsforforces.co.uk is an established and successful UK military discount and benefit website that has been working with UK businesses to deliver special offers and deals for the military community for many years.
