Organized Holiday Decorating
Jacki Hollywood Brown
One of the great things about the holidays is making your "home away from home" look a little more festive, but holiday decorating can be a chore for military families. Steel doors and plaster walls can make it particularly difficult to hang decorations. Even if you have the tools and the talent, you may not want to put holes in the wall because it will be too tiresome to fill them in before you move out.
This is where one of my favourite organizing tools comes in — 3M Command Strips (no, this is not a paid endorsement).
Command Strips allow you to quickly and easily hang holiday decorations without making a mark on the wall. You can use them to hang lights, stockings and garlands. Check out the ideas on the 3M website .
If you are using extension cords to hook up your holiday lights, make sure they are secured out of the way. Cord Clips organize all types of cords and will even fasten them right to the floor!
I use Command Strips all over my house all year round. Our family calendar and all of our posters are hung with Poster Strips. The Water Resistant Strips make it unnecessary for you to drill into ceramic tile. The jumbo hooks are great to ensure you always have a towel handy when you get out of the tub.
Here's a tip you won't find on the 3M website: Send a package of Command Hooks/Command Strips to a deployed military member. It will help them stay organized by providing a place for them to hang their keys and they'll be able to hang a picture of their loved ones on the wall of their room.
