My dad and I had what we call a “Daddy/Daughter Day” last week. A Daddy-Daughter Day is where my dad and I, or my dad and my sister go to Ottawa and just have some special time together. Sometimes we go to a museum or somewhere special for lunch. This time we went and saw “Alice in Wonderland”, shopped for some new clothes, went to Montana’s for lunch, and Chapters to pick out books for us to read together while he’s gone. (We got 2 copies of the same book and will each read a chapter a week so when he calls home it gives us something to talk about.) It probably doesn’t seem very special to some people, but to me every second counts. When I am missing him a lot I can remember our special time together, and it makes me feel better.
After our Daddy-Daughter Day we went to the Bulk Barn as a family to pick out our Countdown Candy. Instead of using just one type of candy this time we used three! (M&M Peanuts, Skittles and Sour Jellybeans) I wanted to get chocolate pretzels but my mom said no because they would melt in the jar!
At night I lay in my bed and think about how different things are going to be without him around. No Daddy to throw me in the swimming pool during the summer, or go biking to Shoppers Drug Mart with, watch Discovery Channel or CFL Football games.
I’m going to miss him so much. I wish sometimes that I could make him stay home, but it’s his job and he loves it. Even if it means leaving “his girls”.
